God’s Kind of Love

Dear Child,

My letter today is very sensitive as it is core to my heart.

I’m writing to you about Love. My kind of love. I see the kind of love you have settled for, only to find out it was a mirage. I understand that you have been looking for my kind of love. You have refused to accept that you can’t find that kind of love outside of me. I am glad that you have found your way back home to your first love, me.

You could never earn or deserve the love I have for you. No one can. But I love you anyway.

My kind of love was described in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7: “Love is large and incredibly patient. Love is gentle and consistently kind to all. It refuses to be jealous when blessing comes to someone else. Love does not brag about one’s achievements nor inflate its own importance. Love does not traffic in shame and disrespect, nor selfishly seek its own honour. Love is not easily irritated or quick to take offense. Love joyfully celebrates honesty and finds no delight in what is wrong. Love is a safe place of shelter, for it never stops believing the best for others. Love never takes failure as defeat, for it never gives up”

Have you been able to hold up to this? Have you been able to love me with your body, soul and mind? Have you been able to love your neighbor as yourself? Have you been able to love yourself, Child?

I know these questions depend on how much you know about my love for you

So I will tell you. So it will be easier for you to love me, love yourself and love your neigbour.

You say you don’t deserve the kind of love I have for you (because you don’t understand it) but that kind of love is who I am. It is a grace you may never add up to be someone you think I want but I love you as you are.

I have always been intentional about you. That was why I said in Jeremiah 1:5 that “before I shaped you in the womb, I knew all about you. Before you saw the light of day, I had holy plans for you: a prophet to the nations – that’s what I had in mind for you.”

Why would you ever believe the devil’s lie that my love can leave you?

Apostle Paul understood my kind of love and that he explained in Romans 8:38: “So now I live with the confidence that there is nothing in the universe with the power to separate us from God’s love. I am convinced that his love will triumph over death, life’s troubles, fallen angels, or dark rulers in the heavens. There is nothing in our present or future circumstances that can weaken his love. There is no power that could never be found in the universe that can distance us from God’s passionate love, which is lavished upon us through our Lord Jesus, the Anointed one!”

Child, are you having troubles believing this? Because of your flawed parents, that abusive friend or lover or your inability to love yourself?

I understand you. But I don’t want you to perish because of your lack of knowledge. I don’t want you to run away from me anytime you make a mistake, hence allowing the devil to play his tricks on you.

John 3:16 said, “For this is how much God loved the world – he gave his one and only, unique son as a gift. So now everyone who believes in him will never perish but experience everlasting life.”

Do you think I haven’t taken into account your future flaws before I made this decision? Even if you have spent your whole life running from me or done things you regret, I still love you and want to have a relationship with you.

Ephesians 3:17-19 says, “Then constantly using your faith, the life of Christ will be released deep inside you, and the resting place of his love will become the very source and root of your life. Then you will be empowered to discover what every holy one experiences – the great magnitude of the astonishing love of Christ in all its dimensions. How deeply intimate and far-reaching is his love! How enduring and inclusive it is! Endless love beyond measurement that transcends our understanding – this extravagant love pours into you until you are filled to overflowing with the fullness of God!”

Draw near to me so you can understand the love I have for you.

I am your father.

Can a mother forget her nursing child? Can she feel no love for this child she has borne? But even if that were possible, I would never forget you! See, I have written your name on the palms of my hands.

Child, I have given you the Holy Spirit because I want you to be filled with my love. Romans 5:5 says, “And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.”

My love is talked about in John 3:16, 1 John 4:7-11, Romans 8:38-39, Isaiah 54:10, Romans 5:8, Galatians 2:20, Psalm 136:26, Ephesians 2:4-5, Psalm 86:15, Zephaniah 3:17, 1 John 3:1, Deuteronomy 7:9 and Psalm 37:7-9

Live with these scriptures.

My Goodness and mercy will follow you all the days of your life.

Tell yourself every day that my love has found you.

Your Father,
